Hello from Pulau Redang, Malaysia!
Considering how long it's been since I've updated this blog, perhaps some of you were wondering if I've been stranded here! Not so...but I have been visiting with Antonia Ghazlan, one of the talented designers represented by a la Mod Body. One of the perks of deciding to open an online lingerie boutique, offering unique and sophisticated European lingerie designs, is getting to know the designers themselves. Antonia and I have been fortunate enough to become friends in the process. Between lounging by the turquoise sea and sipping vodka tonics, we did manage to get a little work done - nice job if you can get it right? Antonia is the creative and managing director of her own design firm, Antonia Ghazlan, Ltd. Once based in London, she and her family relocated to Kuala Lampur, Malaysia last summer where her husband is from. She continues to design beautiful creations such as bras, panties, camisoles, and chemises, and continues to closely oversee production of her product. Her new collection will be available in the spring. Stay tuned for more on Antonia as our next newletter will feature her in "All About Antonia".

"All Tariffs Aren't Created Equal"
There was a great piece in the April 28 issue of the New York Times by Michael Barbara, entitled "In Men's and Women's Apparel, All Tariffs Aren't Created Equal".
As he says..."Congress, it turns out, plays fashion favorites. Take bathing suits. It slaps a 28 percent tax on men's imports, but just 12 percent on women's. Or overalls. The government imposes a 14 percent tariff on women's, but only 9 percent on men's."
So, on top of these tariffs, most importers need to add a percentage to the retail price to cover their costs. Lingerie for example can be as high as 33%. So, seems the saying is true, there really is a price for looking good!"

a la Mod Body has been selected as the Lingerie Retailer of the official ACMA gift basket, which is given to celebrity Presenters and Performers on the evening of the awards show. This year's show is scheduled for Tuesday, May 15.
a la Mod Body will gift a set of handmade lace panties by European designer Antonia Ghazlan, along with a $100 gift certificate to each of the 90 Presenters and Performers at this years awards show, including Reba McEntire (host), Carrie Underwood, Sugarland and Miranda Lambert.
The 42nd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Tuesday, May 15th, 2007 at 8:00 PM EST. The show will be broadcast LIVE on CBS Television.
